El Segundo is a charming Los Angeles County coastal community with an inviting small-town feel. The community is bisected by Sepulveda Boulevard. Many businesses are located to Sepulveda Boulevard’s east, including numerous airline offices and aerospace corporations. West of Sepulveda Boulevard is characterized by quiet residential streets leading to the beachfront, along with a quaint downtown Main Street lined with shops and restaurants.
El Segundo’s real estate mix has mid-century modern single-family homes, as well as contemporary condominiums, town houses, and custom-built homes. The town was masterplanned as a community for Standard Oil employees in the 1910s. Today’s El Segundo retains the feel of a friendly Midwest town, while its beach and proximity to Manhattan Beach give it a touch of laid-back California cool.
El Segundo’s old-world charm comes to the forefront along Main Street, with mom-and-pop stores, classic film screenings and jazz concerts at the 1920s
Old Town Music Hall, and the 1950s-style tiki lounge kitsch of
Purple Orchid. Enjoy espresso beverages and avocado toast at
Two Guns, creative tacos at
Sausal, and tasty Italian dishes at
Deluca Pasta. For drinks, grab a craft beer at
Brewport Tap House or the rock-and-roll-themed
Rock & Brews beer garden. To El Segundo’s south, the modern shopping mall at
The Point has dozens of stores and restaurants, with a Whole Foods Market right across the street.
El Segundo’s compact
beach tends to be less crowded than those in neighboring communities. It adjoins Manhattan Beach’s
El Porto Beach to the south and
Playa Del Ray Beach to the north. In addition to the Fourth of July fireworks and a Christmas parade, family-friendly community events are held in El Segundo throughout the year. To El Segundo’s south, close to The Point shopping mall, Lakes at El Segundo has a nine-hole municipal golf course and driving range.
El Segundo’s top-performing high school will be familiar to many as its attractive 1920s main building has been a filming location for numerous movies and television shows.
